The Indian Premier League in previous year seemed to take the IPL Points Table 2017 take many twists and turns as the eight teams play each other in a long and competitive league and try to stay as close as possible to the top of the IPL Standings. The top four teams on the IPL Team Ranking at the end of the league will be qualifying for the two Qualifiers and one Eliminator, with the Final scheduled for 2017.
This time around the competition is stiff and all the sides will be vying to stay on top of the table.
At the bottom half, Kings XI Punjab was able to finish the eighth place with eight points with such a remarkable performance once again. Kings Eleven Punjab are in a very urgent need of a major revamp to their squad as the team had acquired just four wins in their campaign. Despite the shift in the captaincy as a last resort, it did not worked well for them as they lost their last three matches.
Delhi Daredevils who finished sixth with 14 points from seven games. At one point in the battle, Delhi Daredevils played strong enough to reach the final four, however it went to settle at the sixth place, following a lots of variations in their position towards the end. A similar feat was achieved by the Mumbai Indians too, who finished fifth owing to slightly superior net run rate.
Rising Pune Supergiants were one of the two new entrants in the last season. The Players from Pune had a pretty good squad on paper, before they lost some of their key performers to injuries. Combining it with a lack of performance, it was not surprising to see them finish at the seventh place in the table by acquiring five wins. The injury of their three best performing players along with a poor performance of the other players made things only worse of them.
Moving to the upper half of the table, Kolkata Knight Riders had qualified for the playoffs by the skin of their teeth. Acquiring the fourth place with a great performance and effort, they lost in the playoffs. Finishing at the third place were Sunrisers Hyderabad, the team which could have finished at the top, but due to the two back to back defeats in final they finished at the third place with moments of group stage. David Warner’s role as a captain, and VVS Laxman’s mentoring definitely are the reasons for the brilliant performance of Sunrisers Hydrabad.
Royal Challengers Bangalore was the one to reach the second place and were the eventual runners – The team was up, a feat that which helped them by winning them the four group matches back to back and winning the Qualifier one that won the hearts of all, as they made their leap of faith from the seventh place to the second. Virat Kohli led his team through to the playoffs and finals with just one defeat in last six games.
At the last there is Gujarat Lions, the team finished at the top of the IPL Points Table and had two chances thereafter to reach the final. But as it turns out, they succumbed to pressure. While in the previous season, the IPL points table has been a ride full of ups and downs, one can only anticipate how it will be in IPL 2018 Season.
